Fall has come and we are knee deep in baseball and football with basketball following quickly.  Professional athletes display their prowess on the playing field while thousands of spectators watch.  How did these men become successful in their area of expertise?  Is it luck?  Is it their natural physical abilities? Or is it a work ethic that propelled them above their peers and helped them excel?  One of the most famous and “winningest” basketball coaches ever, John Wooden, believes that there is a playbook that involves not only the athlete’s physical abilities but creates a game plan for success on the field and in life.  He believes that qualities such as loyalty, cooperation, enthusiasm, poise, and patience have a direct relationship to success on and off the playing field.  As we develop these traits, they build upon each other and lead us in a direction of self-esteem, purpose, and success.  To quote Coach Wooden, “Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.”  No matter where we are in the road of life, we can refocus our efforts to do our best to develop qualities that lead to success in any endeavor.
